The Puna de Atacama is a high plateau in the northwestern corner of Argentina. It is home to some of the most incredible desert landscapes in the world. The Puna de Atacama borders the Chilean Atacama Desert, and although the two areas share some scenic similarities, the photographic opportunities are very different.
In January 2023, I extensively explored this extraordinary landscape. What I found in this remote desert took my breath away – and not just because of the altitude! Surreal rock formations, vast sand dunes, endless salt flats, dramatic mountains, impressive lava fields, and a dark starry sky – all this and much more I discovered in this rarely visited photographer’s paradise.
